Maruti Suzuki XL6 Overview

Maruti Suzuki XL6 is the premium version of Ertiga. This car looks more muscular from the front and the overall look is better and more premium. This car is available in 6 seater. Maruti Suzuki XL6 is available at Nexa showroom. What are the features of this car? Let us understand here.

Exterior

The XL6 looks more muscular and gives the feel of a premium SUV when viewed from the front. The integrated DRLs with the headlamps and the chrome-finished grille enhance its overall appearance. Fog lamps are also provided on the lower side. Front parking sensors can also be seen on the lower bumper.

From the side profile, the XL6 gives the feel of a premium car from Maruti. To provide a more SUV-like appearance, extensive body cladding has been used. Roof rails and 16-inch wheels are also offered. Overall, it feels more balanced and premium compared to the Ertiga.

Other changes include blacked-out B and C pillars. At the rear, a shark fin antenna and smoke-effect tail lamps with chrome finishing on the boot door are provided, which give it a sportier look. XL6 badging can also be seen on the left side.

Interior

Inside the XL6, the first row features a large dashboard finished in black, which feels slightly more premium compared to the Ertiga. It also gets an instrument cluster and centrally positioned AC controls. A co-passenger side glovebox is also provided. The interior is offered with a proper black theme. The doors get bottle holders along with some additional storage space for keeping small items. On the driver side, window control switches and other control systems are also provided.

Front Seats

The seats are comfortable even for long journeys. They are offered with 6-way adjustability along with a tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel, which makes driving smoother and more comfortable. As a result, the XL6 feels like a more comfortable car overall.

2nd Row

Headroom and legroom are sufficient in the second row, although thigh support may feel slightly inadequate for some passengers due to the relatively smaller seat size. The second row especially gets captain seats, which are known for offering better comfort, although the seats still feel slightly compact. Individual armrests are also provided for added comfort. However, rear window sunblinds are not available., p

3rd Row

Accessing the third row in the XL6 can feel slightly difficult because the entry space is somewhat narrow. However, passengers can also enter from the gap between the captain seats without folding them. Once seated, the third row feels comfortable for short journeys, but it is not very comfortable for long-distance travel.

The third row does not get dedicated AC vents, although roof-mounted AC vents are provided for the second row, which help circulate cooling towards the rear. These seats are especially comfortable for children. For long-distance usage, folding the third row makes the boot area more practical for carrying luggage.

Storage Options

The first row gets a center console with a storage compartment along with additional storage spaces for keeping small items. A cooled glovebox is also provided, which can comfortably accommodate one to two bottles.

Safety

The XL6 comes equipped with four airbags, ABS with EBD, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), Hill Hold Assist, rear defogger, rear washer and wiper, LED front fog lamps, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchors as standard features. Higher variants additionally get a 360-degree camera and a highline Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). Connected car technology is also offered to monitor the vehicle’s health, location, and driving patterns.

Boot Space

The boot can accommodate both large and small-sized suitcases. Around three to four small suitcases can be stored easily. After folding the third row, the company claims a boot space capacity of 550 litres.

In the CNG variant, placing the cylinder underneath helps retain a decent amount of boot space. The seats also get a 50:50 split-folding adjustment, making the boot area more practical and usable. In many CNG cars, boot space is significantly compromised, but this issue is much less noticeable in the XL6, making it more suitable for carrying luggage during long journeys.

Performance

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is offered with a single 1.5-litre petrol engine option, which can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The same engine is also available with a factory-fitted CNG kit, although the CNG variant is offered only with a manual transmission.

City Driving

While driving in city traffic, frequent gear changes are often required. However, the transmission feels smooth, making the driving experience easier. The mild-hybrid technology also works quite efficiently. The automatic transmission especially feels more comfortable in city driving compared to the manual transmission. However, since the manual gearbox is also very well tuned, regular drivers may not notice a major difference in daily usage.

Highway Performance

While driving the XL6 on highways, the car feels very comfortable at speeds between 70 to 90 km/h. However, when the vehicle is fully loaded, higher-speed driving and overtaking may feel slightly difficult. Performance can also feel reduced in hilly regions due to the relatively lower engine capacity and slightly lower ground clearance for an MPV, which can make the driving experience feel somewhat strained.

Paddle shifters can also be used during highway driving, which help improve performance and enhance the driving experience by providing power delivery as per requirement.

CNG Performance

Even after switching to CNG mode, it does not strongly feel like the car is running on CNG. The technology works well to maintain power delivery and torque output for smoother driving. CNG mode is best suited for smooth and relaxed driving, although slight underpower may be felt in situations requiring higher torque. However, this is not very noticeable at speeds between 70 to 80 km/h.

Variants

The Maruti Suzuki XL6 is offered with a single 1.5-litre petrol engine option, which can be paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The same engine is also available with a factory-fitted CNG kit, although the CNG variant is offered only with a manual transmission.

The 1.5-litre petrol engine feels very smooth and refined, while engine noise remains minimal. However, the mild-hybrid technology’s frequent start-stop operation may feel slightly irritating at times. Engine vibrations are very minimal, and the cabin also feels quite silent.

Pros & Cons of Maruti Suzuki XL6
